Get Ready For Autumn With These Cosy Knits!

Processed with VSCO with hb2 preset

YAY jumper season is upon us and honestly i’ve never been so excited, i’m obsessed with cosy oversized jumpers they are my absolute favourite. I have to admit that I do get a little miffed off when we have the odd hot day and can’t wear my jumper, i’ve been ready for autumn/winter for so long.

So of course when the shops bring in their autumn wear I HAVE to raid their jumper sections adding more to my wardrobe, to be honest I probably don’t need them but I HAVE to have them. I headed to a couple of my favourite shops that never let me down when it comes to their autumn wear and successfully added to my ever growing collection!

I picked up this New Look Light Grey Long Line Jumper (£9.99)if your a regular reader or if you know me personally then you will know that I LOVE grey so this jumper was given no second thought. This jumper is quite thin and light weight but is super comfy and keeps those arms toasty.

I also headed over to Primark and grabbed this yellow/mustard knitted jumper (£15) it’s thicker than the New Look one I picked up so it would definitely hold up for the colder months, this paired with a pair of black Topshop Joni jeans and Old Skool Vans is my absolute fave!

Processed with VSCO with hb2 preset

Lastly I headed to Asda, I always love their autumn ranges they tend to have quite a lot of berry colours which is right up my street. I picked up this navy oversized Knitted Tunic (£18) but I was unsure whether to keep it in my basket because I tend to steer away from blues and generally wear black, white, grey, burgundy & mustard colours but I tried it on and it looked AMAZING. As mentioned it’s oversized which is perfect for me as I always buy jumpers/t-shirts at least 2 sizes bigger than what I am, comfort is definitely key. This jumper keeps heat in so well with the close knits i’m always a toasty marshmallow in this!

Afternoon Baking | 6 Tier Rainbow Cake

If you’ve been following my blog in the last couple of months then you will have noticed that i’ve been doing the odd afternoon baking post. I LOVE cake and just can’t get enough of it.. I literally have a second stomach for it, oh wait that might just be my little cake shelf *hides*.

For Scarlett’s first birthday my husband baked her a 6 tier rainbow cake and it was INCREDIBLE, my baking skills are somewhat poor with my cakes tending to be hit and miss so I set myself a challenge to make my own rainbow cake and it was an absolute success! So here is the recipe I used so you can bake your own.

DSC_6717

For the cake

350g self raising flour

3tsp baking powder

350g soft soft unsalted butter

350g caster sugar

6 large eggs

1 tablespoon vanilla extract

splash of milk

For the frosting

100g unsalted butter, soft

250g cream cheese, at room temperature

600g icing sugar, sifted

DSC_6723

Method

  1. Preheat your oven to gas mark 4 and begin prepping your cake tins, for this I just grabbed mine from Poundland and some pre cut circle baking sheets which work a treat in them, saves a lot of fuss.
  2. Cream your butter and sugar together using an electric hand mixer until light and fluffy.
  3. Once your butter is light and fluffy add your eggs in one at a time.
  4. Begin to add your flour a little bit at a time with your hand mixer on slow, then add your baking powder and vanilla extract.
  5. Depending on how thick your mixture is add a splash of milk so it’s the correct consistency.
  6. Divide your cake mixture into six bowls, I did mine a heaped table spoon at a time to each bowl.
  7. Add your food colouring to each of the separated cake mixtures, for this I used Sugarflare gels they work wonders.
  8. Once your colours are mixed add them into your cake tins.
  9. Now it’s time to bake your cakes, I do mine 3 at a time for 15-20 minutes, prick your cakes with a cocktail stick to make sure they are fully baked, if there is mixture sticking to the stick then pop them back in for a couple more minutes.
  10. Once all baked leave them to fully cool down before frosting.
  11. Whilst your cakes are cooling now it’s time to make up your frosting, add your butter and cream cheese together combining it, once that’s done your can add your icing sugar in a little bit at the time until you get a thick consistency. Add it to the fridge to chill.
  12. Once all the cakes have cooled it’s time to assemble, add a small blob onto the centre of your cakes spreading it thinly and add your next layer, repeat this until your cakes are assembled.
  13. Crumb coat your cakes by applying a layer of frosting around the sides of your cakes which will fill any gaps. Chill for a hour after this.
  14. Apply a thick coat of frosting to your cake and using a side scraper even it out.

The Charming Candle Co

I have a never ending love for candles, I actually blame my mum because she was obsessed and I’ve always been brought up with like a million dotted around the house.  I think that candles just always make the room look 100 times cosier when lit, perfect for my Netflix binging of course. So when I had to opportunity to review The Charming Candle Co new jewellery candles (£35) it was obviously a no brainer, I’d be silly not too right!?!

If you have not heard of The Charming Candle Co before then they are a new company just founded in 2017, with a mission to shake up gift-giving. Want to know more? Read ahead.

“We’re new, and we want to be different. We think gifts should be interesting.”

Firstly what instantly catches my eye is the packaging, the candle comes in a gorgeous white box with gold enhancements. Inside your eyes are treated with a beautifully designed candle which comes with gold illustrations printed on clear glass it just looks magical and high quality. The candles are all hand made using natural wax, reusable jars, cotton wicks which are free from lead, tin and zinc, absolutely no bad stuff.

The Charming Candle Co currently have a range of candles all for £35 each allowing you to choose either a charm or jewellery, they currently have Luscious Vanilla, Fresh Linen, Pina Colada, Lavender Spa, Pink Champagne and Paradise Beach.

When it comes to buying candles I always look for the scent rather than how pretty it looks and also how powerful that scent is, because there is nothing worse than a stinky candle and having it burn it for hours without any scent pay off! But you really don’t have that problem with The Charming Candle Co, the scent is strong which you can even smell before you have opened the packaging, always a good sign.

I was kindly sent Luscious Vanilla* which is a rich, warming, creamy concoction. Luscious vanilla has top notes of rich Madagascan vanilla pods whipped to a buttery frenzy with a hint of nutmeg. As soon as I opened the box I recognised the scent which it’s similar to the smell of Lush’s Fun bars so of course I fell in love instantly. As mentioned there is nothing worse than burning a candle with no scent pay off, the candle burns filling your room with a stunning rich vanilla scent which literally spreads throughout the house, it smells AMAZING.

“Scent has the power to define an atmosphere and elevate your mood. Jewellery has the power to be this one little thing that makes you feel unique Surprise! The thrill of discovering what jewellery you get each time is highly addictive”

Just when you think this Candle can’t get any better, it does. The two wick candle comes with a hidden piece jewellery or charm depending on which you choose, so the general idea is that you burn away your candle to reveal your hidden surprise, but be careful because the wax is hot!

I’ve found that you have to burn your candle for a good few hours, I believe mine took around 3-4 hours to reveal the hidden surprise which is covered in foil but then a further hour or so to be able to fully get the foiled piece out.

DSC_6754.JPG

After much anticipation of what you are going to find in your candle here comes the big reveal, I waited for the foil to cool and was greeted by a beautiful silver rocking horse charm stamped 925 so it is real sterling silver, it is simply beautiful. The charm will fit perfectly on my themed Pandora bracelet for my little girl as each charm has a meaning. The candle still has around 50+ hours left allowing you to enjoy for a movie night, pamper evening or just day to day burning.

TK Maxx | Nanshy Brushes

Remember the days as a teenager applying Dream Matte Mouse with your fingers? *cringes*, i’m glad that those days are definitely long gone and I use makeup brushes to apply my foundation. I have never tried Nanshy brushes before but always heard great things about them so when I spotted them in Tk Maxx I didn’t give them a second thought, they were straight in my basket.

DSC_6016

I picked up the Nanshy Luxury Brush Set £19.99 which is supposed to be £36.95, the set contains 13 synthetic travel sized brushes. The set comes in a beautiful white case with a mixture of 4 face and 9 eye brushes which include powder/foundation brush, foundation brush, angled blush brush, powder brush, angled brow brush, liner brush, small shadow brush, crease brush, shadow brush, fluffy shadow blending brush, concealer brush, angled shadow brush and eyelash/eyebrow spoolie, an absolute bargain for £20!

DSC_6038

DSC_6032

The brushes have stunning white pearlescent handles which look elegant and instantly caught my eye. The set is smaller than their standard brushes but this makes perfect for when your travelling, the travel handy case and brushes are slightly bigger than purse size, they were absolutely perfect for when I recently visited London without taking up a lot of space *dances*.

DSC_6019

DSC_6025

All of Nanshy’s brushes are PETA approved which means that they are cruelty free and vegan, always a plus in my book.

With some makeup brushes from other brands they feel slightly rough and scratchy when applying your makeup but with this set there is absolutely no scratching what so ever, they feel SO soft against your skin, like feathers. The stippling brush is my absolute favourite, it allows you to create that flawless finish on your skin whether it be powder or liquid foundation, which to me is really important.

I would definitely recommend anyone grabbing one of these sets if you see them, I now need to get myself all of the brushes from Nanshy!

Nip + Fab | New Beauty Range

If you have never heard of Nip + Fab before then they are a skincare company that are well known for their cutting edge ingredients in their skincare ranges, I personally have never tried their range before but have always read fantastic things about them. Nip + Fab have recently released their own make up range about a month ago which I was pretty excited about especially after seeing it all over their Instagram, at the moment you can only buy it off their website directly or Superdrug‘s website.

“Discover our range of makeup staples that will guarantee you #Nofilter status in no time. From easy-to-use contouring palettes to create those killer cheekbones, an eyeshadow palette for mesmerising eye definition through to flawless foundation shades that you can custom-make, heads will turn at your #Makeupgame.”

I headed over to Superdrug’s website and had a flick through what they had, they currently have 3 for 2 on their products so I literally wanted one of everything but I had to limit myself *sobs* so I grabbed their foundation in shade 10 (£12.95), concealer in shade 10 (£8.95) and powder blush set in blush 1 (£8.95).

DSC_6281

First up is the Nip + Fab foundation, not having the products in store makes it incredibly hard to buy without testing it out before hand *sad face*, I picked the foundation up in shade 10 which I believe shade 5 is the lightest, though on the website photos it looks like 10 is lighter than 5.. you see my problem here. The good thing about these Nip + Fab foundations is that they also do a lighter and darker foundations drops (£12.95) so you can just add a couple of drops in and make your own shade.. magic!

When I first applied this foundation I noticed that it has a warmer tone to it rather than the cooler tones I tend to go for but once applied it gave me that much needed vibrancy that my regular skin tone lacks. The foundation is medium coverage, it blends incredibly well and manages to cover over all my imperfections nicely without any need for a second coat leaving me with a flawless matte base.

The foundation is so lightweight I even forget i’m wearing any which is perfect for me because there is nothing worse than it sitting heavy on my face all day especially with summer coming up. I’ve found that at the end of the day i’m left without an oily t-zone and no need for a top up, a win win in my eyes! This has definitely got to be my new favourite foundation as of yet!

DSC_6282

I grabbed Nip + Fab’s concealer in the shade 10 but i’m in the same dilemma with that in terms of shade as again it is a warmer tone. The concealer is light weight and not heavy on the eyes but provides full coverage, it’s so great it even covers over my horrendous black eye bags.

DSC_6270

DSC_6276

Lastly I grabbed Nip + Fab Blusher Palette in Blushed 1, which comes in four beautiful pink and coral shades, Flamingo, Cocktail, Whisper and Velvet. Each of the shades are buttery and beautifully pigmented leaving a soft and subtle glow to my pale skin, absolutely perfect for summer.

I would definitely recommend that you head over and treat yourself to some Nip + Fab bits, you won’t regret it!

Colour Freedom | Pink Pizazz

If you haven’t heard of Colour Freedom before then you are definitely missing out in the hair game, Superdrug have Knight & Wilson’s brand exclusive to their stores and have such a wide range of semi permanent and permanent dyes. I’ve used Colour Freedom before using their Metallic Glory range which you can have a nosey over here.

IMG_6379

If you’ve read my last hair post then you’ll know i’ve recently dyed my hair Candy Floss using Crazy Color which looked incredible but due to it being a pastel colour it didn’t last long and washed out totally within 3 washes which I was gutted about. I decided to try a brighter colour which I thought would last longer and fade to a nice subtle pink.

I grabbed Colour Freedom’s semi permanent dye in Pink Pizazz which is basically a flamingo pink colour, I picked up the 150ml tube which is their extra large size perfect for long hair or multiple use on short/shoulder length hair. I had already previously bleached my hair using Jerome Russell 30% bleaching kit which lifted my hair to a light blonde, I highly recommend it if you don’t have the money to buy salon supplies, it’s left a perfect base for any bright colours.

IMG_6380

What’s in the box?

IMG_6381

I grabbed my dye bowl and tinting brush and away I was! I decided to dilute the dye slightly with a white based conditioner just incase I was left with luminous pink hair, Knight and Wilson do a pasteliser allowing you to create pastel colours but conditioner just works exactly the same I think and saves you £6.99.

I sectioned my hair into four parts and added the dye to dry hair, Colour Freedom recommend that you add it to towel dried hair but I never have. I added the dye to each section starting from the bottom using the tinting brush, with my hair covered in the dye I massaged it into my hair to make sure that it got all the strands of hair. It is recommended that you leave it on for 15 – 30 minutes depending on the vibrancy you want, personally I left it for 30. The smells of dyes are my pet hate especially when you have to put up with it for a good 30 minutes, but Colour Freedom smells absolutely incredible and what’s even better is that it has a deep conditioning formula with Shea butter and Argan oil leaving your hair silky smooth and in tip top condition.

After 30 minutes had passed I washed my hair with warm water, it says to wash until the water runs clear but I was there for a good 10 minutes washing it and the colour was still running so I decided 10 minutes was more than enough. I dried my hair and was left with such  vibrant flamingo pink colour it’s insanely beautiful, it felt SO soft without any need for a hair mask which is what I usually have to use when dying my hair to prevent it drying out.

Colour Freedom claim that their dyes fade out within 6-10 washes which is reasonable for semi permanent colours but they advise that if you wanted to colour refresh then simply wash your hair, towel dry and comb through, add a little blob of the dye and work through your hair.

Faded to pastel pink after 4 washes & deep conditioning.

I am definitely impressed with the result i’ve gotten and cannot recommend them enough!

A couple of weeks ago I did a post on my top 10 Netflix movies, so here is a top 10 TV show post to follow on from that. I absolutely love vampire and werewolf type films/shows, actually love is an understatement, i’m obsessed so there is a lot of that in my favourites list.

As I mentioned previously there’s many times that I struggle finding something to watch,  whilst my favourite shows are on their midseason breaks I tend to re watch them, there must be plenty of people in the same boat so this post is ideal for those struggling.

TV

Vampire Diaries, The Originals, Teen Wolf, Hemlock Grove, Pretty Little Liars, Breaking Bad, The Killing, Shooter, Scream & Homeland

TV1

What’s your top 10? i’d love to know.

Afternoon Baking | Creme Egg Brownies

Since seeing quite a lot of Creme Egg brownie posts on Instagram, it was obvious that I had to make some myself, how could you not want those in your belly!?! Scrolling through Google for a recipe I stumbled upon cook bake eat, the process was pretty simple which is what I like to see! I’m not exactly the baking master so the easy option is sometimes best. The recipe allows you to create your own chewy Creme Egg brownies serving 12 people or if your me 6, maybe less sometimes *hides*.

Ingredients:
185g Dark Chocolate

185g Butter

85g Plain Flour

40g Cocoa Powder

3 Eggs

275g Caster Sugar

6 Cadbury Creme Eggs

Method:

1. pre-heat the oven to 180 and gas mark 4.

2. Melt your butter and chocolate together in a bowl over a pan of hot water. Once it’s melted put it aside to cool.

3. Mix your eggs and sugar using an electric whisk allowing it to double in size and thicken up.

4. Add your egg and sugar mix to your cooled chocolate mixture.

5. Sift in the flour and cocoa powder and gently fold everything together. Pour the mix into your baking tray and cook for 20 mins.

6. Begin cutting your creme eggs in half.

7. After 20mins cooking, take out your brownies. They should be looking quite cooked around the egde but still quite soft in the middle. Place your eggs on top of the half cooked brownies and gently press down.

8. Bake for a further 10 – 15 mins or until cooked through out.

These turned out amazing with the right amount of chewiness, the only thing I did was put the Creme Eggs in a little earlier than I should have, but they are still delicious.

Are you going to give the recipe a try?

Poundland | Makeup Gallery

Poundland beauty products? that’s right, the Poundland have their own range of beauty products ‘Makeup Gallery’ as well as a couple of drugstore brands such as Rimmel for of course £1. I thought I would give them a chance and grabbed a couple of their eyeliners as I am always on the look out for a good liquid eyeliner, unfortunately most tend to leave me disappointed with the lasting power.

img_5793

Eyeliner is always a must in my makeup routine, I feel like my makeup doesn’t look right without a good old winged eyeliner so a trusty eyeliner is definitely a must. I grabbed the Glitter Chick Flick Eyeliner £1 and Pro Liquid Eyeliner in Space Grey £1, the packaging is so simple which is sometimes best in my opinion. The Pro Liquid Eyeliner is super pigmented with no need to go over it a second time and it has incredible lasting power, lasting over 12+ hours and smudge free which some drugstore eyeliners don’t even come close to that. Glitter Chick Flick Eyeliner is great to use on top of other liners adding that little bit of sparkle to your eyes. Both eyeliners come with little bristles as a brush rather than a solid/spongey tip if that makes any sense, I usually struggle with doing winged eyeliner no matter how much practice I have, you know the process once you start, then you keep adding extra lines and by the time you know it your winged eyeliner is up to your eyebrows! but these are a dream to do it with making so much easier to control.

Both have exceeded my standards as I wasn’t expecting much being £1 each but they are incredible and definitely deserve a spot in my makeup bag.

Have you tried Poundland makeup? What do you think?

Must Have | Sleek Makeup Matte Me Liquid Lipsticks

Since discovering matte lipsticks I am utterly obsessed, actually obsessed is an understatement, they are pretty much all I wear now. I managed to grab the Sleek Makeup ‘The Magic Word’ set (£5) at Christmas from Boots, it was a little cute set of 4 minis in the shades Birthday Suit, Velvet Slipper, Rioja Red And Old Hollywood but of course my impatience got the better of me and I used them all before blogging them *oops*.

img_5776

I was absolutely obsessed with Velvet Slipper so much that this is one of my most used of the set so I decided to take a stroll to Boots to grab the full sized version, I was a little gutted when I was looking for it all of them had been opened and used but I managed to spot one mixed in with others, it was fate. I grabbed Velvet Slipper along with Vinto Tinto (£4.99 each), Velvet slipper is a mauve kind of shade and Vinto Tinto is a deep berry purple which are both right up my street.

img_5774

img_5782

Sleek claims there is only one coat needed, I’ve found that doing two coats works best for me as it sometimes can be uneven, the pigment of these are lovely and compliment my pale skin perfectly. The matte lipsticks come with a doe foot applicator gliding on with ease similar to using lipgloss but dries matte within seconds and is literally glued to your lips all day long so that definitely ticks long lasting off the list. The formula is super lightweight, comfortable and doesn’t highlight any dry patches on my lips leaving them looking super smooth. I literally cannot live without them, i’d own them all but I tend to stick to darker shades so i’d love to see some more from Sleek.

What’s your most favourite matte lipstick?
