NYX Ultimate Shadow Palette |

A couple of weeks ago I was strolling through Boots, I never seem to be able to leave empty handed especially when I head to their bigger stores, there’s so many goodies that I NEED. I found myself having a nosey over at the NYX counter and had my eye on this NYX Ultimate Shadow Palette Warm Neutrals (£16).

How can you deny a palette that’s packed with 16 warm neutral tones and at £1 per shadow, you guys know how much I love copper shades so it definitely wasn’t leaving my basket for anything.

The palette is packed with a mix of mattes, satins, shimmers and metallic shadows. All of the 16 shadows are have great pigmentation and blend beautifully, though I do tend to need to use a primer beforehand as their lasting power without isn’t that great and tends to crease on my eyelids.

Since having the palette I’ve found myself reaching for the bottom two sections of the palette rather first two which contain the lighter tones, I tend to find that the copper shades suit my blue eyes perfectly. The palette allows you to create both day and night looks with ease with a combination of lighter and darker shades making it a truly perfect palette.

I love that these 16 shadows are packed into a palette that is handbag friendly, perfect to stick in your handbag and have a quick top up ready for your night out.

What’s your go to palette?

Kat Von D | Beauty Haul & Giveaway

Since watching LA & Miami Ink I have forever been obsessed with Kat Von D, who isn’t?! So when I saw that she was bringing her own beauty range out I was so excited BUT there as a down side, I would have to order from America which comes with customs fees so when Debenhams announced last year that they would have Kat Von D’s range online exclusive to them my dreams had come true.

With my birthday approaching next weekend my husband said that he would get me a couple of bits from Kat Von D *dances* I was over the moon. Scrolling through Debenhams website again for the millionth time after previously eyeing up what I wanted I grabbed the Shade and Light Eye Contour Palette £37, Everlasting Liquid Lipstick £17 and Lock It Foundation £27.

Being pale is always a problem when your looking for foundations on the high street as most of them for me are warmer tones so they have an orange tone to them, I tend to have to lighten them or look for high end makeup brands. With that in mind I picked up the Lock It Tattoo foundation in the shade 41 neutral, which is her lightest shade and looked like the colour would match my skin tone online.

I was so excited to try this out as i’ve heard great things about it especially after reading Caitlin’s post ‘The Base That Will Not Budge’ over at Through The Mirror, Kat claims that “Lock-It’ foundation is the only long-wear liquid formula we can count on to create a perfect canvas. With one pump it will even out discolouration, stop shine and hide blemishes, offering amazing coverage that’s so long-wear you can go a full 24 hours without re-applying.” sounds like the perfect foundation right?!

I blended the foundation onto my skin using my Real Techniques Buffing Brush and honestly it’s practically a shade from white, the foundation is incredibly pale and far too pale for me which NEVER happens! I looked drained and ghostly. Once fully blended into my skin after 1 pump the coverage was about medium I would say, even though it claims to be full coverage, I could still see redness from spots so a second coat might be better. The foundation sank into my pours clogging them rather than covering over them and didn’t really live up to my expectations, which I was gutted about, I don’t think it was the right foundation for me. On a positive note though I do absolutely love her packaging, the plastic container is a nice touch making it handbag friendly!

Another absolutely beautifully packaged item from the Kat Von D beauty range I picked up was the Everlasting Liquid Lipstick in the shade Exorcism which is a beautiful deep purple. I absolutely adore my dark lipsticks, it’s pretty much all I wear now a days, so this was definitely a must into my basket. The lipstick glides across my lips with a doe foot applicator without any pulling, the formula is really creamy drying matte in seconds! What I love most about this liquid lipstick is that it is SUPER pigmented, only one swipe is needed across your lips for an intense colour which last all day long without highlighting any dry patches. I definitely need to get my hands on more shades, especially the shade Woolfe.

Head to the end of the post to enter the giveaway to win your own Everlasting Liquid Lipstick in your choice of shade!

Lastly I picked up the Kat Von D Shade and Light Eye Contour Palette which i’ve been lusting over forever and possibly the main reason for the order. The palette is a hard cardboard base as opposed to the usual hard plastic containers eyeshadows are usually in, I was quite worried as I thought it would get ruined but the case is super sturdy and has a magnetic lid protecting those beautiful eyeshadows.  The palette consists of twelve matte shades which include neutral, warm and cool shades split into three quads consisting of base, contour, define and highlight shades.

Neutral Shades: Laetus, Samael, Solas and Lucious

Cool Shades: Lazarus, Saleos, Shax and Liberatus

Warm Shades: Ludwin, Succubus, Sytry and Latinus

The palette comes with a little leaflet on how you could transfer your eyes through the art of contouring which I find super handy because i’m absolutely useless when it comes to using eyeshadows, so it’s a great palette for beginners.

Each of the twelve shades allow you to create both day and night looks in one palette *dances* with each blending beautifully with their buttery formula and super pigmented powder giving you those dramatic eyes you’ve been lusting over. I would definitely recommend this palette to all you beauty addicts, it’s a must have in my eyes.

Urban Decay Mini Haul

URBAN.jpg

Being a beauty blogger makeup is forever on my to buy list especially when it comes to Urban Decay, their product range is gorgeous and i’m never left disappointed. I went to Debenhams a couple of weeks ago and strolled past the Ubran Decay counter and spotted that they had their Shadow Box palette for around £16 instead of their usual price of £23, obviously it went straight in my basket, there’s no doubt about that.. i’d be a fool not to.

This beautiful palette has 12 incredibly beautiful and buttery shades, all 12 of them are super pigmented, creamy and blendable. As of late I have been wearing smog, lost and baked cowboy constantly, it is definitely a perfect autumn look.

Shades: Sin, Indo, Bordello, Tornado, Smog, Blackout, Flash, Mushroom, Lost, Freelove, Moonshadow and Baked Cowboy.

What I love about this palette it that it is just the perfect size for travelling, it’s handy for when your out and about so you can pop it into your handbag or makeup bag without it taking up a lot of space, it also has a nice sized mirror so your able to do that perfect smokey eye look on the go.. perfect right?

I also picked up one of Urban Decay’s Comfort Matte Vice Lipstick in the shade Disturbed (£15), fortunately for myself I really do not need any more lipsticks in this type of shade but you know what? I couldn’t help myself, I am well and truly obsessed as all you lipstick lovers will understand.. I feel so bare without any lipstick on. Even though this is a matte lipstick unlike some brands it glides across my lips without feeling dry or picking up those pesky dry areas, *curse having super dry and chapped lips in winter* leaving a bold and super pigmented statement lip behind. I honestly cannot recommend this shade enough for an autumn/winter look or even those who feel like that want something a little bit more dramatic than pink shades.

Mini Boots Haul

boots

Having a Boots store literally just down the road does me no favours for my makeup addiction! I am forever walking round the store with Scarlett getting bits and bobs, I literally can’t help myself. I have been on the look out for a new foundation as I currently use Lush Colour Supplement in Jackie Oates but it doesn’t really provide the coverage I would like when my face breaks out. I stumbled across this Bourjois Healthy Mix in Light Vanilla (£9.99) which is their lightest shade, I swatched it in store even though there were no mirrors and bad lighting it looked pretty good so I grabbed it.

As many bloggers will know it is a huge pain in the arse when you buy something you want to review on your blog but you can’t use it until it’s photographed but I managed to get around this because it’s pumpable (YAY). I got home and tried it out straight away, I instantly liked how it wasn’t too thick and creamy compared to some foundations as that can feel quite heavy on my face and look cakey for my liking.  I also love how this foundation provides me with a lovely full coverage from just one pump for my whole face and yet it looks really natural adding a subtle healthy glow.

I also picked up the Bourjois Colorband (£5.99) in the shades Brun Dadaiste and Beige Minimal I bought these after seeing them being used on a bloggers Youtube video, which I can’t remember for the life of me but I adored the colours. When I headed to Boots they had a 3 for 2 offer on all Bourjois products so I swatched these and instantly fell in love with the pigmentation, it was simply stunning. These Colorbands have a lovely creamy texture which glide over your eyelids effortlessly staying put for hours without the need of a eye primer and are crease free what more could you want?!

I am not a huge eyeshadow wearer I usually opt for a winged liner and plus I am also totally useless at blending! though I have found these Colorbands to be fantastic making my life so much easier too, they are super easy to blend leaving your eyes looking amazing in a couple of seconds.

I would definitely say that was a successful mini haul and I shall be purchasing the other shades at some point!

Have you tried any of these these? What did you think?

Essence Cosmetics

essence

I was kindly sent a few items from Essence Cosmetics to review, recently I have been a huge fan of this brand from what I have tested (review here) and read from other blogs their products are within a budget price range and a high standard of quality which is always great when looking for a makeup brand. If you have never heard of Essence before they do not test on animals but bring amazing quality for affordable prices allowing everyone to try out their brand.

*Long Lasting Lipstick – 07 Natural Beauty (RRP £2.29)

I received the shade ‘Natural Beauty’ which is encased in a matte finish holder giving more of a high quality feel to the product considering the price. I absolutely adore the colour! once applied to my lips it is subtle which is great for work, it also lasts for a couple of hours before reapplication is needed. The consistency is quite creamy making application easier, it is also great for my dry skin as it does not bring it out even when it has dried out.

*Quattro Eye Shadow Palette – 15 Most Wanted (RRP £2.99)

I love the shades in this ‘Most Wanted’ palette they come in silver, brass, gold and brown. The silver doubles up a brow highlighter which I have been using it for and it looks great, the shades are amazingly pigmented and long lasting. The only downfall I would say about this product is that when I have been removing it I have noticed glitter was left behind.

*Colour & Go Nail Varnish 81 (RRP £1.59)

I am not really one for red nail polish but this shade would definitely be perfect for christmas nails, a gorgeous glittery cranberry shade. This nail varnish applies nice and easy with only one coat needed for maximum coverage, also it dries easily so perfect if your in a rush.

Too Faced | ‘à la mode’ Palette | MissMakeupMagpie Competition

10743449_10152343383785974_2107399522_n

Too Faced ‘à la mode’  (RRP $36)

“Ooh la la! Capture a summer sunset in St. Tropez with coral, golden pink and fiery copper hues. Indulge in nine sexy shadows that play well together day and night or look fantastic alone to create bright, fresh eyes a la mode.”

I entered Gemma’s (Miss Makeup Magpie) Instagram competition quite a while ago to win this awesome Two Faced ‘à la mode’ palette and won, I could not believe it.. it was a lovely notification to wake up to.

When I received the package I was amazed at the quality of the packaging it was simply amazing and such an expensive feel to it. The product came in a thick matte cardboard box which was designed like the front of the palette. The palette also comes with step-by-step instructions which are handily attached to the mirror that include some of Too Faced’s signature how-to Glamour Gide with three looks for you to experiment with.

I always loved a rich pigmented palette as they tend to last a lot longer on your eyes throughout the day and this palette definitely is that, i’ve mainly used ‘St. Tropez’ and ‘La Crosisette’ and they have lasted throughout the day whilst running around doing errands and my little lady. They are super blendable due to their silky smooth formula which blends effortlessly for an airbrushed effect which is always great when looking for eyeshadows as they don’t look patchy. I am totally in love with this palette and would definitely recommend it to people for those summer months.

W7 Cosmetics

I was kindly sent a generous amount of W7 products to review on my blog, which I have seen around quite a lot recently and they are fairly cheap so definitely a good budget brand. I have also recently reviewed their W7 Into The Buff palette (HERE) which I thought was a dupe to the Urban Decay Naked palette.

*Candy Blush – Orion (RRP £4.95)

This blush comes in 3 other colours, ‘Angel Dust’, ‘Explosion’ and ‘Galactic’ which are different shades of pinks to peach. I absolutely love this shade it is a subtle peach colour that brings my pale cheeks to life instead of looking ghostly. I have found the texture to be quite powdery and blends fantastically.

*Shadow Perfection – Argent

Another product that is not on their store so again I am unable to quote a price but there are similar ones such a platinum which is £3.95. I like this product it feels quite creamy with just one layer gives you a gorgeous subtle silvery shimmer across your eye lids and then your able to build up for more coverage.

*Yummy Eyes Baked Eyeshadow

I have not seen this product on W7’s website so I am unable to quote you a price on this product (sorry) but what I can say is I absolutely love this eyeshadow. This is a gorgeous shade of brown which I am always a fan of when it comes to eyeshadows as I adore the nude look, I have found that this baked eyeshadow stays put all day. The only downside I must say is at least 2 or 3 layers are needed to build up to get a deep enough shade on your eyelids otherwise it looks like you have barely anything on. None the less I love it and you also get a nice sized mirror which is an added bonus.

 *JustBrows

Another item I am unable to find the price of, but I absolutely adore this eyebrow felt, the chisel tip is just perfect for lining and filing in your eyebrows and another added bonus they picked a perfect shade that matches my brows! The only downside I have found is that it seems to run out and not work as well when I am wearing foundation so I have to top it up with an eyebrow pencil anyway.

*Makeup & Glow (RRP £4.95)

This product is a “gel based bronzer that adds a hint of sun kissed colour to your skin”, I was not too sure on this product as I am pale skinned and it is a darker colour as to what I would personally go for. On my skin it looked quite dark and had quite a bit of glitter which personally I did not like I do tend to go for paler and peachy tones. When using the brush in the bronzing base it looked creamy but it had a matte finish when on my skin which was unexpected. This product could be great for those who are darker skinned.

*Super Duo Eyeliner (RRP £4.95)

I have quite mixed feelings over this eyeliner, usually I hate using liquid eyeliner as I always manage to get it on the top of my eyelids! but I gave it another chance and have been using this for the past few days. The tip is different from your usual eyeliner, it has a bobbly bit on the end if that makes any sense, this makes the brush quite stiff which is quite good for lining especially for beginners but with the bobbly bit it doesn’t make it straight so i’ve found I have to keep going over and then the line keeps getting bigger. Due to having to relayer i’ve also found that it takes off the under layer of the eyeliner.

 *Lashtastic Mascara (RRP £4.95)

The brush applicator is quite a thick brush which glides through my lashes beautifully, I have found that they do not clump up and definitely look fuller and darker.

Overall, I have found W7 to be quite a good budget brand with quite a lot of items under £5 which you can’t complain at. I have mixed feelings regarding the products I was sent but please consider that these may work for you when they have not worked for me.
