Get Ready For Autumn With These Cosy Knits!

Processed with VSCO with hb2 preset

YAY jumper season is upon us and honestly i’ve never been so excited, i’m obsessed with cosy oversized jumpers they are my absolute favourite. I have to admit that I do get a little miffed off when we have the odd hot day and can’t wear my jumper, i’ve been ready for autumn/winter for so long.

So of course when the shops bring in their autumn wear I HAVE to raid their jumper sections adding more to my wardrobe, to be honest I probably don’t need them but I HAVE to have them. I headed to a couple of my favourite shops that never let me down when it comes to their autumn wear and successfully added to my ever growing collection!

I picked up this New Look Light Grey Long Line Jumper (£9.99)if your a regular reader or if you know me personally then you will know that I LOVE grey so this jumper was given no second thought. This jumper is quite thin and light weight but is super comfy and keeps those arms toasty.

I also headed over to Primark and grabbed this yellow/mustard knitted jumper (£15) it’s thicker than the New Look one I picked up so it would definitely hold up for the colder months, this paired with a pair of black Topshop Joni jeans and Old Skool Vans is my absolute fave!

Lastly I headed to Asda, I always love their autumn ranges they tend to have quite a lot of berry colours which is right up my street. I picked up this navy oversized Knitted Tunic (£18) but I was unsure whether to keep it in my basket because I tend to steer away from blues and generally wear black, white, grey, burgundy & mustard colours but I tried it on and it looked AMAZING. As mentioned it’s oversized which is perfect for me as I always buy jumpers/t-shirts at least 2 sizes bigger than what I am, comfort is definitely key. This jumper keeps heat in so well with the close knits i’m always a toasty marshmallow in this!

Lemon Drizzle Loaf Cake

Processed with VSCO with hb2 preset

I haven’t done a baking post in quite some time and of course with Bake Off being back on TV baking is a must for me, naturally I had to bake one of my favourites.. lemon drizzle. I absolutely love cake and chocolate, but then again who doesn’t?! I could literally live off it which may have possibly contributed to the little lady being 9lb 12oz *hides*.

Processed with VSCO with hb2 preset

Ingredients;

200g softened butter

200g caster sugar

4 medium eggs, beaten

250g self-raising flour

For the drizzle;

juice of 2 lemons and 1 whole lemon

100g granulated sugar

Processed with VSCO with hb1 preset

Method;

Preheat your oven to 180°C, fan 160°C, gas 4. Line your loaf tin using parchment paper or a loaf case.

Weigh out your butter and caster sugar adding it to a large mixing bowl and beat with an electric whisk until light and creamy.

Gradually add your eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition, add a little flour after adding your eggs. Fold in the rest of the flour.

Spread the mixture in the tin and bake for 45-50 minutes, or until a skewer comes out cleanly.

To make your drizzle, squeeze the juice from the 2 lemons into a bowl and stir in 75g of the sugar.

Remove the cake from the oven and pierce it all over with a cocktail stick pouring over your lemon drizzle, leave the cake to cool in the tin.

Slice the remaining lemon and put it in a pan with the remaining 25g sugar and 8 tablespoons of water. Bring to the boil then simmer for 12-15 minutes until the lemon slices are tender, watching that the syrup doesn’t burn.

Arrange the slices on top of the cake.

Not to blow my own trumpet but it tastes incredible!

I grabbed the recipe from Sainsbury’s and made some adaptions/removed a couple of steps but if you want to follow it step to step then you can find it here.

What’s your favourite cake?

Yankee Candle | Spiced Orange

Processed with VSCO with hb2 preset

As soon as 1st September hit like most bloggers it was autumn in my eyes, I always love this time of year, all the dark cosy nights in with autumn inspired candles, chunky knitwear & plenty of hot chocolates.. cliche I know.

Candles to me are the one thing that instantly makes any room look a little bit more cosier and homely, I tend to ALWAYS have a couple of candles in each room, I blame my mother for that but I was out of any autumn inspired candles so I was seriously lacking those cosy vibes. Of course that had to be dealt with, right?

I headed straight over to the Yankee Candles and had a good old sniff of them all, Spiced Orange (£23.99) instantly caught my eye with it’s dark orange colour and scent. Spiced Orange has fragrance notes of fresh ginger, juicy citrus, ozone, spicy accord and sugared vanilla. It honestly smells incredible and fills the whole room with a spicy scent.

I opted for a large jar which burns between 110-150 hours, there’s nothing worse than your favourite candle running out after 20 hours. Usually I tend to stay away from Yankee Candles because of the price tag is pretty ridiculous at times but I just couldn’t say no to this!

I’ve been burning this none stop for the past week, it honestly smells incredible and perfect for those cosy cold and rainy days!

ELF Cosmetics | Getting Your Lips Autumn Ready

IMG_7533ED

I absolutely ADORE the autumn and winter months, so as soon as September approached I did a little squeal of excitement. Everything just feels SO much more cosier, give me all of the knitted jumpers, candles & hot chocolates.. cliche I know but I love it. Unfortunately for me what comes with the colder weather is dry lips so getting them autumn ready is essential!

IMG_7534ED

A good lip scrub is definitely needed to try and tackle those pesky dry lips, I tended to reach for Lush’s Santa Baby Lip Scrub but it does tend to be quite dry and ends up all over your finger so when I was that ELF had their own lip scrub that came presented like a lipstick I NEEDED it.

I was kindly sent the *ELF Studio Lip Exfoliator (£4.50) in sweet cherry, as mentioned the lip exfoliator comes in a lipstick container which makes it SO much easier to apply and completely mess free. The product is creamy but yet gently exfoliates your lips removing any dry and chapped skin. The studio lip exfoliator is infused with Vitamin E, Shea Butter, Avocado, Grape and Jojoba Oils leaving you with that perfect base for any matte lipsticks!

IMG_7536ED

This lip exfoliator has been a life saver, I have absolutely no problems what so ever when applying my matte lipsticks. My favourite go to autumn lipsticks have the be Kat Von D in Exorcism, Revlon Super Lustrous in Black Cherry, Sleek Makeup Matte Lipsticks in Vinto Tinto, Urban Decay in Disturbed and NYX Soft Matte Lip Creme in Havana.

How do you get your lips autumn ready? Do you have a favourite product?

Kat Von D | Beauty Haul & Giveaway

Since watching LA & Miami Ink I have forever been obsessed with Kat Von D, who isn’t?! So when I saw that she was bringing her own beauty range out I was so excited BUT there as a down side, I would have to order from America which comes with customs fees so when Debenhams announced last year that they would have Kat Von D’s range online exclusive to them my dreams had come true.

With my birthday approaching next weekend my husband said that he would get me a couple of bits from Kat Von D *dances* I was over the moon. Scrolling through Debenhams website again for the millionth time after previously eyeing up what I wanted I grabbed the Shade and Light Eye Contour Palette £37, Everlasting Liquid Lipstick £17 and Lock It Foundation £27.

Being pale is always a problem when your looking for foundations on the high street as most of them for me are warmer tones so they have an orange tone to them, I tend to have to lighten them or look for high end makeup brands. With that in mind I picked up the Lock It Tattoo foundation in the shade 41 neutral, which is her lightest shade and looked like the colour would match my skin tone online.

I was so excited to try this out as i’ve heard great things about it especially after reading Caitlin’s post ‘The Base That Will Not Budge’ over at Through The Mirror, Kat claims that “Lock-It’ foundation is the only long-wear liquid formula we can count on to create a perfect canvas. With one pump it will even out discolouration, stop shine and hide blemishes, offering amazing coverage that’s so long-wear you can go a full 24 hours without re-applying.” sounds like the perfect foundation right?!

I blended the foundation onto my skin using my Real Techniques Buffing Brush and honestly it’s practically a shade from white, the foundation is incredibly pale and far too pale for me which NEVER happens! I looked drained and ghostly. Once fully blended into my skin after 1 pump the coverage was about medium I would say, even though it claims to be full coverage, I could still see redness from spots so a second coat might be better. The foundation sank into my pours clogging them rather than covering over them and didn’t really live up to my expectations, which I was gutted about, I don’t think it was the right foundation for me. On a positive note though I do absolutely love her packaging, the plastic container is a nice touch making it handbag friendly!

DSC_6424

Another absolutely beautifully packaged item from the Kat Von D beauty range I picked up was the Everlasting Liquid Lipstick in the shade Exorcism which is a beautiful deep purple. I absolutely adore my dark lipsticks, it’s pretty much all I wear now a days, so this was definitely a must into my basket. The lipstick glides across my lips with a doe foot applicator without any pulling, the formula is really creamy drying matte in seconds! What I love most about this liquid lipstick is that it is SUPER pigmented, only one swipe is needed across your lips for an intense colour which last all day long without highlighting any dry patches. I definitely need to get my hands on more shades, especially the shade Woolfe.

Head to the end of the post to enter the giveaway to win your own Everlasting Liquid Lipstick in your choice of shade!

Lastly I picked up the Kat Von D Shade and Light Eye Contour Palette which i’ve been lusting over forever and possibly the main reason for the order. The palette is a hard cardboard base as opposed to the usual hard plastic containers eyeshadows are usually in, I was quite worried as I thought it would get ruined but the case is super sturdy and has a magnetic lid protecting those beautiful eyeshadows.  The palette consists of twelve matte shades which include neutral, warm and cool shades split into three quads consisting of base, contour, define and highlight shades.

Neutral Shades: Laetus, Samael, Solas and Lucious

Cool Shades: Lazarus, Saleos, Shax and Liberatus

Warm Shades: Ludwin, Succubus, Sytry and Latinus

The palette comes with a little leaflet on how you could transfer your eyes through the art of contouring which I find super handy because i’m absolutely useless when it comes to using eyeshadows, so it’s a great palette for beginners.

Each of the twelve shades allow you to create both day and night looks in one palette *dances* with each blending beautifully with their buttery formula and super pigmented powder giving you those dramatic eyes you’ve been lusting over. I would definitely recommend this palette to all you beauty addicts, it’s a must have in my eyes.

As a huge thank you for reaching 1k followers over on my Twitter I am hosting a giveaway that you can enter below to win your own Kat Von D Everlasting Liquid Lipstick of choice!

Nip + Fab | New Beauty Range

If you have never heard of Nip + Fab before then they are a skincare company that are well known for their cutting edge ingredients in their skincare ranges, I personally have never tried their range before but have always read fantastic things about them. Nip + Fab have recently released their own make up range about a month ago which I was pretty excited about especially after seeing it all over their Instagram, at the moment you can only buy it off their website directly or Superdrug‘s website.

“Discover our range of makeup staples that will guarantee you #Nofilter status in no time. From easy-to-use contouring palettes to create those killer cheekbones, an eyeshadow palette for mesmerising eye definition through to flawless foundation shades that you can custom-make, heads will turn at your #Makeupgame.”

I headed over to Superdrug’s website and had a flick through what they had, they currently have 3 for 2 on their products so I literally wanted one of everything but I had to limit myself *sobs* so I grabbed their foundation in shade 10 (£12.95), concealer in shade 10 (£8.95) and powder blush set in blush 1 (£8.95).

DSC_6281

First up is the Nip + Fab foundation, not having the products in store makes it incredibly hard to buy without testing it out before hand *sad face*, I picked the foundation up in shade 10 which I believe shade 5 is the lightest, though on the website photos it looks like 10 is lighter than 5.. you see my problem here. The good thing about these Nip + Fab foundations is that they also do a lighter and darker foundations drops (£12.95) so you can just add a couple of drops in and make your own shade.. magic!

When I first applied this foundation I noticed that it has a warmer tone to it rather than the cooler tones I tend to go for but once applied it gave me that much needed vibrancy that my regular skin tone lacks. The foundation is medium coverage, it blends incredibly well and manages to cover over all my imperfections nicely without any need for a second coat leaving me with a flawless matte base.

The foundation is so lightweight I even forget i’m wearing any which is perfect for me because there is nothing worse than it sitting heavy on my face all day especially with summer coming up. I’ve found that at the end of the day i’m left without an oily t-zone and no need for a top up, a win win in my eyes! This has definitely got to be my new favourite foundation as of yet!

DSC_6282

I grabbed Nip + Fab’s concealer in the shade 10 but i’m in the same dilemma with that in terms of shade as again it is a warmer tone. The concealer is light weight and not heavy on the eyes but provides full coverage, it’s so great it even covers over my horrendous black eye bags.

DSC_6276

Lastly I grabbed Nip + Fab Blusher Palette in Blushed 1, which comes in four beautiful pink and coral shades, Flamingo, Cocktail, Whisper and Velvet. Each of the shades are buttery and beautifully pigmented leaving a soft and subtle glow to my pale skin, absolutely perfect for summer.

I would definitely recommend that you head over and treat yourself to some Nip + Fab bits, you won’t regret it!

My New Blogging Photo Set Up |

I am so jealous of those with beautiful laminate flooring, I have forever lusted over a grey washed laminate floor for my front room, as you will know I have a HUGE obsession with grey and recently painted my front room feature wall Mineral Stone Grey. Unfortunately with renting a house there isn’t a lot you can do to it, well I say that I bet some landlords will let you change the flooring but in the end it will only benefit them in the long run.

I have seen various bloggers photography and they usually have the marble worktop or gorgeous flooring featuring in their photos, I usually take my photos on my grey IKEA fluffy rug but it’s not quite cutting it anymore, after reading a blog post a while a go which I can’t for the life of me remember who it was, I saw that you can create that look with literally less than £20, you can do it with wallpaper, vinyl & laminate samples. I headed to B&Q and had a look at their laminate flooring, I saw their Berkeley Effect Antique Finish Laminate which is beyond stunning and picked up 6 samples of that costing £12, £2 each which is equivalent to a drugstore foundation. My husband glued and attached them to some MDF to make it a little stronger, awaiting it to be cut down to size but it is honestly the perfect size for blog photos and barely cost a thing, grab some fresh/fake flowers and there you have it, a nice little set up for more professional looking photos. Step aside crappy blog photos there’s some new boys in town.

Orbit Print!

PicMonkey Collage

Custom Canvas Print (£39.46 inc Next Day P&P)

Ever since I had my gorgeous lady I have wanted a huge canvas of her but my partner advised that we waited till she was a little older, so that she has more personality shining through to which I agreed. Around September time I was doing a small shop in ASDA when these sales people stopped us to talk about their photograph offers that they were holding at ASDA during the week, they were sepia vintage photographs which I must admit did look stunning. They had an offer of £15 for the shoot and you also get a 10×8 photograph too, they also dress them up to suit the background so I really wanted it done as she was 6 months at the time – thank you to my dad for paying for that. We received the prints and soon as I saw it I knew that this was the one to be blown up, the photos were just perfect but this particular one stuck out of the bunch, it’s of her holding her favourite book ‘Guess How Much I Love You’. We decided to grab the full package costing £140 which included the digital files and a range of photographs, this was perfect for when we wanted to buy the canvas.

901

We have been looking around companies who make custom photo canvas’ and from what we had found it was looking quite expensive for the size we wanted, we luckily found OrbitPrint which was reasonably priced compared to the others. Looking through the website we decided that we wanted to get a A1 canvas (starting at £24.99) of that photograph blown up, the process on the website was really simple which made it a breeze to order. We selected the canvas size that we wanted that followed on to the selection of frames, we decided to go for a deep frame (44mm) as that is what we personally preferred. Scrolling on through the list it then took you on the type of wrap you wanted for your canvas, we selected gallery wrap (adding £0.99) as we believed that the photograph continuing onto the sides would look better and more professional. The next stage was to choose what type of canvas you wanted, premium canvas appeared better suited, this was a thick premium cotton canvas (£3.49) so these image would not be glossy and ultra smooth. The process then takes you over to enhancements, which was options such as colour enhance, red eye removal etc though we did not need any of these as the photograph that we provided was perfect. The final stage is upgrades which is where you can choose gift wrap etc, we decided to select photo proof via email so that we could see what the image looked like, it was absolutely spot on. We went ahead with the order and accepted the proof print (below is the process).

Screen Shot 2015-01-25 at 21.30.41

The printing process was speedy, from contacting them, emailing the proof to printing and shipping was done in just over a hour, I was amazed. We had paid for next day delivery (£7.99) so were so excited to receive it, however on Wednesday it was non stop snowing so the delivery was held, though I think they also damaged it to which Yodel advised us to contact OrbitPrint. OrbitPrint kindly remade our canvas and sent it out for dispatch again with another speedy process so that it would be here next day, they also refunded us the £7.99 postage. Friday afternoon the print had arrived, it was absolutely perfect, the quality and attention detail is just simply beyond amazing – there was no distortion of the image.

Overall, ordering through OrbitPrint is a really fast and simple process making it a breeze to order your personalised canvas. The quality and attention to detail is simply incredible which is more than what we had hoped for, the customer service that was provided when we needed was again spot on and really helpful.

Have you used OrbitPrint before? What did you think?

They currently have 80% off photo canvas’ over at www.orbitprint.com
